DECK CONSTRUCTION · YAKIMA, WA

Deck construction in Yakima, built by a general contractor

A deck is a small building that lives outside. Superior Roofing, LLC builds them as general contractors, from the first layout string to the last stair.

Chapter 01

A deck starts in the ground, not on top of it

Most of what makes a deck last is hidden once it is finished. It begins with layout: where the deck meets the house, how far it reaches into the yard, and where the stairs come down so you are not stepping onto the one soggy corner of the lawn. Then come the footings and posts, which carry every pound that will ever stand on the boards. If those are wrong, nothing built above them can be right.

In the Yakima Valley a deck sees hard sun, dry summers, and winters that freeze and thaw. Wood moves with all of it. A crew that has spent decades on rooftops knows how weather works on a structure, and that habit of looking at water, sun and movement carries straight into how a deck is laid out and fastened to the house.

Framing, decking and the details people notice

Once the posts are set, the frame goes up: the beams, the joists, and the connection to the house, which is the point where a careless job turns into a leaky wall. A roofer has a particular respect for where a new structure meets an old one, because water finds that line first. We think about how the deck attaches and how it sheds water before a single board is nailed down.

Then comes the surface, the railings and the stairs. These are the parts you will actually see and touch every day, so straight lines and tight, even spacing matter. Our work comes with keen attention to detail and a personal touch, and that is what separates a deck you are proud of from one you keep meaning to fix. If you have a shape or a view in mind, tell us and we will work from it.

Permits and the practical questions

Whether a deck needs a permit depends on the job and on the city or county where you live, so we do not guess at it here. Ask when you call and we will talk through your particular yard and what you want built. Bring a rough idea of the size, how high off the ground it sits, and whether it will be near a door, a slope, or the edge of the roof.
